Global leader of sensor-based sorting solutions, TOMRA Recycling, has further strengthened its wood segment with the appointment of Alexandre Clairembault who has joined the company as Segment Area Manager – Wood.

A specialist in the wood sector for over 20 years, Alexandre is tasked with developing TOMRA’s market in the wood domain across Europe, working in collaboration with local sales teams. He is based at TOMRA’s French office in Salon-de-Provence. Alexandre joins TOMRA’s established wood team, which includes the wood segment director, waste wood application specialists and key service account managers.

Alexandre’s extensive career has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the wood industry, spanning from raw materials to finished products. His previous roles include Sales Area Manager for Egger in France, National Director for France at Sonae Arauco and Kronospan and Sales Director for Menuiseries Combes (2023). He also held sales positions at La Boutique du Menuisier – SGS diffusion, SOGAL France and DESIGN PARQUET. His international experience includes roles with major groups such as Sonae Arauco in Porto in Portugal and Kronospan SL in Spain.

TOMRA Recycling was the first sensor-based sorting solutions provider with a dedicated team for the wood segment. The company aims to drive the development of waste wood recycling through its state-of-the-art sorting technology and process improvement consulting for industry.

Pioneering wood recycling solutions from TOMRA include X-TRACT™ and its deep learning add-on GAINnext™ for the AUTOSORT™ machine. Introduced in 2014, X-TRACT™ is a high throughput sorting solution which separates waste wood from complex mixed streams. Harnessing the power of dual energy x-ray transmission (XRT), the sorting system detects and separates wood from impurities like inert materials, metals, plastic and glass based on atomic density.

TOMRA introduced its deep learning solution GAINnext™ in 2022. The advanced artificial intelligence innovation can solve exceptionally complex sorting tasks by identifying objects by their shape, size and visual characteristics, enabling the differentiation between various types of wood or wood composites. Combining X-TRACT™ and GAINnext™ systems allows wood processors and recyclers to efficiently produce high quality, high purity mono-fractions of non-processed wood (Wood A), clean processed wood (Wood B) and MDF.

Jose Matas, Segment Director for Wood at TOMRA Recycling, comments: “We’re delighted to welcome Alexandre to our wood segment. TOMRA has a long history of providing expert solutions and cutting-edge sorting technology to the wood industry. Alexandre’s extensive experience makes

him perfectly positioned to drive our European expansion, capitalizing on the growing demand for circular wood waste solutions and strengthening our local teams.”

“I’m thrilled to join TOMRA Recycling at such a pivotal moment,” adds Alexandre. “The push for cost efficiency and recycled content makes TOMRA’s wood sorting technology crucial for accessing valuable materials and building a truly circular wood economy. My solid understanding of the wood panel industry will allow me to help recyclers and manufacturers maximize their operations while minimizing environmental impact. I’m excited to play a role in decarbonizing this sector, turning discarded wood waste into valuable resources through TOMRA’s cutting-edge solutions.”
