At the same time, in 2006, Toratècnica was founded in Igualada, Spain. It was the natural continuation of a journey that had begun many years earlier through my work at Morgensen GmbH and SSE GmbH, and later with the establishment of Toratec GmbH in Germany. Together, these experiences laid the foundation for more than three decades of innovation in recycling and sensor-based sorting technology.
What began as an engineering company with a passion for innovative recycling solutions has evolved into a technology-driven organisation dedicated to shaping the future of sensor-based sorting.
Today, as we celebrate our twentieth anniversary, we look back with pride—but even more importantly, we look ahead with confidence.
Three Names. One Vision.
Over the past two decades, the recycling industry has undergone an extraordinary transformation.
What was once a relatively small and specialised market has developed into one of the world’s most dynamic industrial sectors. New technologies, new manufacturers, artificial intelligence, robotics and digitalisation have fundamentally changed the way recycling facilities are designed and operated. At the same time, society’s expectations regarding resource efficiency, circularity and sustainability have never been higher.
For us, these changes have never represented obstacles. They have always represented opportunities.
Throughout this evolution, our organisation has continuously adapted, developed and innovated. Over the years, our activities have grown from Toratec in Germany to Toratècnica in Spain and, more recently, to Sense2Sort—our technology platform dedicated to advanced sensor-based sorting solutions.
Although the names have evolved, our vision has remained unchanged:

To develop innovative technologies that help make recycling smarter, more efficient and more sustainable. That vision is perfectly reflected in our anniversary message.
Three Names. One Vision.
Nearly Three Decades of Experience
Although we celebrate twenty years of Toratècnica, our experience in the recycling industry extends back almost three decades.
During these years, we have developed machinery, designed complete processing installations and created sensor-based sorting solutions for a wide range of bulk materials. Working together with customers, research organisations and industrial partners throughout Europe has provided us with invaluable practical experience.
Every project has expanded our knowledge.
Every installation has inspired new ideas.
Every challenge has strengthened our belief that innovation is driven by listening to the needs of the market.
This accumulated knowledge forms the foundation for everything we are developing today.
A Strategic Focus on Innovation
Over the past four to five years, we have deliberately shifted our focus towards research, innovation and international collaboration. This strategic direction has led to our active participation in several European Union-funded projects under the Horizon Europe and LIFE programmes.
Working alongside leading universities, research institutes and industrial partners, we are contributing to the development of the next generation of sensor-based sorting technologies for the recycling industry.
These projects allow us to combine nearly three decades of industrial experience with cutting-edge scientific research and transform innovative ideas into practical industrial solutions.
For us, innovation is never an objective in itself.
Innovation only has value when it helps our customers solve real-world challenges.
Today, we are building the foundation for the next generation of sensor-based sorting.
Rather than simply developing individual machines, we are creating a completely new technology platform that combines advanced sensor technologies, intelligent data analysis and modular engineering into one flexible architecture.
Our ambition is not simply to build another sorting machine.
Our ambition is to create an open and scalable platform that will enable a new generation of sorting solutions capable of addressing increasingly complex material streams and supporting the transition towards a truly circular economy.
While we cannot yet reveal every detail, we are excited about what lies ahead.
The coming years will see the introduction of new technologies that build upon everything we have learned during the past twenty years—and upon nearly three decades of experience in recycling technology.

Looking Ahead
Anniversaries are moments to reflect on the past.
For us, however, they are even more about looking towards the future.
We sincerely thank our customers, partners, suppliers, research organisations and colleagues who have been part of this journey. Your trust, collaboration and support have enabled us to continue innovating, growing and exploring new possibilities.
The recycling industry will continue to evolve. So will we.
Driven by our passion for technology, supported by European innovation programmes and inspired by the challenges of tomorrow, we remain committed to developing the next generation of sensor-based sorting solutions.
Looking back, we are proud of what we have achieved together with our customers, partners and colleagues over the past twenty years.
Looking ahead, we are even more excited about what is still to come.
We believe the best innovations are not behind us—they are still ahead of us.
We look forward to continuing this journey together with our customers, partners and the entire recycling industry.
