The SICON team has been supplying individual machines for aluminum scrap processing for many years. Less well known is the fact that SICON also provides complete systems, starting with shredding and continuing through quality-based sorting and analysis. Demand for turnkey solutions is increasing. Recycling aluminum scrap is of great importance from both an ecological and an economic perspective. It contributes to resource conservation, energy savings, and emissions reduction, supports the circular economy, and simultaneously offers economic advantages. However, the increasing use of aluminum scrap also raises the demands on the complexity of processing and, consequently, on the quality of materials delivered to smelters.

Delivering specific aluminum scrap qualities according to smelter requirements — and doing so with consistently high performance — is a particular strength of SICON. To achieve this, all processing steps must be perfectly coordinated and tailored to customer specifications. A team of experienced project engineers is available to translate customer requirements into complete system solutions. Additionally, SICON experts are ready to assist with upgrades, retrofits, and optimizations of existing plants.

Shredding – Screening – Separation and Quality Analysis all from a Single Source

Whether shredding should be more cutting-based or impact-based depends on the type of aluminum scrap, the desired throughput, and the processing goals. With the EcoShred® 1SS featuring either hydraulic or fully electric (High Torque) drive, SICON offers a powerful cutting machine that enables gentle shredding while minimizing fines. The EcoShred® 1SS can be combined with a cleaning drum from the SICON portfolio. This reduces surface contaminants and optimizes subsequent sorting.

When material liberation is the priority, the EcoShred® SlimTec is the ideal machine. Thanks to a VFD-controlled drive and an easily adjustable grate configuration, gentle shredding at high throughput rates is possible. The SICON air classifiers — AirSort® or AirKnife — reliably and efficiently separate light material and dust, establishing the foundation for efficient sorting.

For this, SICON offers a full portfolio of necessary separation equipment:

  • Eddy current separators, both concentric and eccentric, up to 3000 mm rotor width
  • EcoSort® Classic XT as an X-ray fluorescence sorter for density-based initial material separation
  • EcoSort® Line LIBS for final sorting into furnace-ready grades
  • EcoScan® Online for final quality control, which can also be installed at the smelter

SICON works closely with its customers to develop sorting algorithms aimed at maximizing the use of recycled aluminum.
