UNTHA: One Supplier, Many Applications

UNTHA: One Supplier, Many Applications
13 Nov 2024  |
UNTHA shredding technology GmbH, the Austrian premium manufacturer of reliable shredding solutions, has been producing shredders for the utilisation of ‘waste’ in order to recycle or reuse it sensibly since 1970. In doing so, the company makes a significant contribution to the conservation of resources, the circular economy and the reduction of CO2 emissions. The wide range of applications for UNTHA shredders includes, among others, the pre-shredding of plastics for material reuse and of used tyres and rubber for thermal recycling. For these applications, the RS and XR series of shredders are used.

The choice of shredder depends on the material (composition), intended use and any spatial conditions and existing technology. UNTHA offers a wide range of different machines, including single-, twin- and four-shaft shredders, shredders for large throughput volumes and shredders for different granulate sizes. The RS-class (4-shaft shredders) are particularly suitable for preparing plastics for subsequent recycling processes. The XR models are ideal for processing scrap tyres and rubber into substitute fuels (RDF). And they can all be configured and customised to meet specific customer requirements.

From rubber to RDF

Due to their composition, used tyres are a challenge for waste management and recycling. They must withstand high loads, which is why they are made of particularly resistant materials such as natural rubber, steel and nylon. All these materials form a complex, long-lasting compound. When shredding tyres, many companies rely on UNTHA, such as ROTH Internation: Every year, the company processes approx. 4,000 tonnes of scrap tyres. The goal is to make the best possible use of the resources contained in the tyres while working as energy-efficiently and economically as possible.

ROTH International uses the UNTHA XR3000C mobil-e: a slow-running, single-phase shredder that does the job that used to require two machines. Thanks to the energy-efficiency of the UNTHA Eco Power Drive and its highly reliable shredding performance, this shredder is particular cost-effective and economical. The C-cutting system shreds scrap tyres down to a fraction size of ca. 50 mm in just a single step (according to the fitted screen size). The unit has a throughput of around 4.5 to 7 tonnes per hour, depending on the state of the material and its composition. Using a magnet separator that is installed above the conveyor belt, metal parts are removed from the material and reintroduced into the resource cycle.

“With the UNTHA XR3000C mobil-e, we shred scrap tyres in a single-step process. The highly efficient shredding process and the economical UNTHA Eco Power Drive lower our overheads and help increase our economic viability. Thanks to the XR, we now achieve the output that used to require two shredders with just one”, is how Michael Roth, Managing Director of ROTH International GmbH, sums up the advantages offered by the UNTHA shredder.

Plastic recycling to close the cycle

When processing plastics, it is important to crush them evenly and to achieve a pure output material. UNTHA shredders are ideally suited as pre-shredders for plastics of all kinds – they ensure that the material is prepared for the subsequent process steps (sorting, washing, grinding, etc.) and can thus be returned to the material cycle. The shredders of the RS series – RS30, RS40, RS50, RS100, RS150 – have been successfully used for decades to help customers around the world recycle a wide range of waste and other materials. In 2024, these shredders were upgraded: existing features were improved and new features added:

Thanks to the direct drive in all machines, the new RS generation has fewer wear parts, which reduces maintenance and spare parts costs. The integrated quick-change system for the perforated screen makes it easier to change screens and up to 30 percent faster than on older models. In addition, adjustments have been made to the screen body and the cutting mechanism to further increase throughput and prevent foreign objects from entering the cutting mechanism.

These shredders help to sensibly recycle plastics from waste, production residues and product destruction.

Special offer for the 4th generation of the RS-class

UNTHA currently  offers a special deal: Until December 31, 2024, customers will receive a voucher when they purchase a new RS. This voucher can be redeemed when buying a new cutting unit or in connection with a cutting unit. Read more about this special offer on the UNTHA website.
