The Global Waste Management Symposium (GWMS) 2028 takes place from 6 to 9 February 2028 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, California. Produced with the Environmental Research & Education Foundation, GWMS is a technical conference rather than a trade show: peer-reviewed research and applied practice in solid waste management, presented to an audience of engineers, scientists, operators and regulators.
The programme covers landfill design, operation and gas management, leachate treatment and PFAS, waste characterisation and diversion, organics and food waste, recycling markets and material recovery facility performance, waste to energy, and life cycle assessment of waste systems. Sessions mix university research with operating data from North American landfill and MRF operators.
The format is deliberately residential and small enough for direct contact between speakers and delegates, which makes it useful for technology suppliers looking for early-stage validation and for operators facing a specific technical problem. Poster sessions and a limited exhibition run alongside the conference.
