Toray Industries, Inc. is a Japanese materials manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. According to the company, it was established in January 1926 and its businesses cover fibers and textiles, performance chemicals, carbon fiber composite materials, and water treatment and healthcare products.
Performance chemicals and plastics
Toray’s performance chemicals business includes nylon, ABS, PBT and PPS resins and molded products, polyolefin foam, and polyester, polyethylene and polypropylene films.
Recycling of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS)
In September 2026 Toray announced a solvent-based process to recover PPS from waste materials. The process selectively dissolves PPS and removes glass fibers and other impurities. The company states that the recycled material keeps the same molecular weight and melting point as virgin PPS, and it aims to start commercial supply around 2030.
Water treatment, fibers and carbon fiber
Toray also supplies water treatment membranes and related equipment, filament yarns, staple fibers and non-woven fabrics, and carbon fibers with carbon fiber composite materials and their molded products.
