Metal Recycling: Back To Recyclable Material Through Shredding

The reprocessing or recycling of metals saves energy and CO2 emissions compared to the extraction of new raw materials. In order to maximise the efficiency of metal processing, Karl Karletshofer GmbH relies on an innovative recycling line – starting with a powerful and energy-efficient UNTHA shredder, model XR3000C.

Karl Karletshofer GmbH has been active in the trade and storage of ferrous scrap, non-ferrous metals and electronic scrap for more than five decades. To round off its service portfolio, a shredding and sorting system has now been put into operation, starting with a UNTHA XR3000C.

The British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA) has said that using more recycled metal can massively help to beat plastic pollution. As rising numbers of people switch to reusable containers, such as drinks flasks for hot and cold drinks and as others make the move from plastic bottles to metal cans.

People started to realize that recycling more metal can make a real difference. For example: aluminium drinks cans are part of a closed loop recycling system. As long as they are placed in the recycling, they can be back in the shops as a new can in as little as 60 days.

Future-Oriented Metal Recycling: De Rooy Relies on WEIMA Solutions for Briquetting and Dewatering

The collaboration between De Rooy, Nuenen in the Netherlands, the WEIMA partner Dormatec Environment Systems, De Goorn, and WEIMA Maschinenbau GmbH demonstrates how a circular economy can be implemented in metal processing.

Together, they worked on a solution to not only transport and dispose of metal waste such as grinding sludge and aluminum chips in a space-saving and cost-effective manner, but also to convert them into valuable, reusable materials. The two WEIMA presses, C.200 and TH 1500, play a central role in De Rooy's recycling process.

The Zinc Recovery Process of AIK Technik AG

The FLUREC process is an innovative method for extracting pure zinc from fly ash, which can then be sold at a profit. Here are the individual steps of the process as shown in the video: Fly ash, a by-product from the combustion of coal or other materials, is collected and processed. This may include drying, crushing or screening the fly ash to prepare it for further processing steps. Leaching: In this step, the prepared fly ash is treated with an acid solution. This solution dissolves the zinc out of the fly ash and forms a zinc-containing solution.
