Environmental services providers and waste management companies need sorting facilities capable of processing the high volumes required efficiently while produce outputs of the high quality needed for recycling.

Innovative Conveying Belts for Plastic Recycling

Globally, companies are increasing their plastic recycling initiatives to mitigate the harmful effects of the material on the environment. In Europe, under The EU Waste Framework Directive, all member states must increase their level of recycling of municipal waste to 60 per cent by 2030.

To reach these targets, countries will need more recycling facilities with faster, wider, and more complex sorting lines to cater for a higher throughput of waste.

Following on from their ground-breaking robotic project in 2021, Omagh-based recycling company, RECYCO, and REP-TEC have teamed up, once again, on a new conveyor project. With the goal of making recycling of lightweight, high-volume fiber and flake recyclate much more economical and, in some cases even possible, Coperion has developed a new version of its ZS-B side feeder. Using the innovative ZS-B MEGAfeed, plastic recyclate with a bulk density under 200 kg/m³, long considered intake-limited and thus not worth recycling, can be reliably fed in large quantities into Coperion’s ZSK twin screw extruder and be concurrently recycled and compounded. | Read more »
