Schulz & Berger is known almost worldwide for its high-performance air classifiers. As one of the technology leaders, the systems from Altenburg in Thuringia impress with their reliable and precise material separation, especially in recycling and waste disposal companies. With the Coanda classifier introduced at the beginning of the year, the company offers an even more efficient solution for separating light and heavy materials such as yellow bag material, paper and cardboard or mixed film.
Marcel Rohmann, one of the two managing directors of Schulz & Berger, on the innovation: “Even during the first tests and the presentation at the IFAT trade fair, we knew that we would take the airstream sorting to a new level with the Coanda classifier. That’s why we decided to take part in the Innovation Award.” The Thuringian Innovation Award is regarded as a benchmark for innovative new developments and inventions in the Free State of Thuringia and honours outstanding innovations made in Thuringia. “The fact that we were ultimately able to convince the jury and that I was able to accept this award on behalf of our entire team makes me incredibly proud. All the fingers crossed paid off,” adds Rohmann with a smile.
Three different aspects were decisive for the jury, which voted the Coanda classifier into first place in the “Industry and Material” category. The classifier impressed with its high degree of purity in separation. Depending on the input material, purities of up to 95% are possible. In combination with the approximately 40 % lower energy consumption and the flexible application and installation options, the new air separator ensured that the coveted trophy was awarded to Schulz & Berger for the first time.
The special feature of the patented Coanda separator is its mode of operation based on the physical effect of the same name. Air then follows a neighbouring surface at the right speed and pressure and pulls the surrounding air with it. ‘Thanks to this effect, the Coanda classifier works particularly effectively and can be installed directly on existing conveyor belts in the sorting systems with little structural effort,’ explains Marcel Rohmann.
The Thuringian Innovation Award is organised by the “Stiftung für Technologie, Innovation und Forschung Thüringen (STIFT)”, an organisation that is actively involved in technology, innovation and research in the Free State of Thuringia. Its Chairwoman Christiane Kilian emphasises the importance of the Altenburg innovation and the other submissions for the Free State of Thuringia: “Innovation is created where entrepreneurs are prepared to break new ground. The Coanda classifier is an example of the innovation potential of our federal state.”
