Seven WEIMA shredders at ten locations since 2016
Since its foundation in 2004, Sunchang has developed into a leading environmental specialist in Korea. The company now operates 10 waste plants across the country. The partnership with WEIMA began in 2016 with the commissioning of its first WEIMA machine. In the following years, several more shredders were added, so that there are now already 7 WEIMA shredders in use. Two of these shredders are located at the Sunchang Energy plant in Daegu.
Efficient recycling of municipal waste
In Daegu, large quantities of post-consumer waste are processed to be used later as refuse-derived fuel (RDF). After the post-consumer waste has been delivered, it is freed from larger impurities using a drum screen and then checked again for impurities by employees. The filtered material then ends up in a WEIMA PreCut 2000 pre-shredder. This shreds the material with its 350 kW hydraulic drive from Hägglunds Bosch Rexroth to a homogeneous consistency.
Homogeneous material for energy generation
In order to be able to use the material efficiently for energy recovery, a further shredding process follows. A WEIMA Powerline 2500 shreds the pre-shredded post-consumer waste over a working width of 2,500 mm into a homogeneous material 60 mm in size. The material is then ready for further transportation and is used in various plants as a substitute fuel to generate energy. “WEIMA offers more performance than other domestic recycling machines,” says Dae-Il Kim 2 / 4
SRF Operation Director at Yuchang R&C. “Their reliability and ease of use make their shredders ideal for our needs.”
Successful partnership
Over the past 8 years, Sunchang has gained a lot of experience with WEIMA shredders and has already processed over 1 million tons of waste with WEIMA shredders. There have hardly been any significant problems so far, which is why Dae-Il Kim would recommend WEIMA without hesitation. “The German WEIMA machines offer a clear advantage for waste disposal companies. They are easy to operate and virtually maintenance-free, which minimizes downtime and reduces operating costs.”
