Those companies dealing with the recovery and separation of resources in Europe and the rest of our western world, are now forced – also by politics – to handle this situation and improve recycling qualities by sorting much further than before.
The separation of our recycled metals, for example, can be done much better; our sorting technologies are able to reach the higher purities and better recovery rates, which are needed to have a short ROI and to earn good money on the final products.
The S2S-Sorting line for post ECS accept material (Zurik) is able to run stainless steel sales qualities in the first step, the accept material from this sorting step falls directly on the next sorting belt where copper wires and other lost metals are recovered and separated from the non-metallic material. We reach >99% recovery rate on the metals. Material size ranges 10-30/ 30-60/60-100mm are common fractions, all can be processed on the same sorting line.
The ECS eject fraction (Zorba) goes to our S2S-XRF-Sense sorter; here heavies are separated from the light metals (mainly Al). The XRF based sorter is able to analyze the different heavy elements and uses this information to see the difference between zinc, brass, copper, lead and stainless steel. Even the Al rich fraction (Twitch) can be separated and sorted in different alloy materials. The S2S-LIBS-Sense is able to distinguish the various Al alloys, based on their different elements. Like automotive scrap 5000/6000 series, taint tabor 3000/5000/6000 series, Al wheels alloys, magnesium or any other light metal alloys you wish to separate. The purities are >95% at least and we receive throughput rates of 5 t/h on our 6 channel sorter on a midsize material from 30-100mm.
Finally, let us look at the fine fractions, these are important too, because there is so much of this material available in the market and the sorting is more challenging than anything else. The sorting technology is a little different, throughputs often not so high caused by the quantity of parts per second to be detected and separated, it needs higher qualities to be economic and valuable enough to process.
The S2S-Qolor-Sense is an optical sorting machine especially designed and builds to be able to detect small parts based on color, brightness, shape or size. The minimum size starts at 0,5mm. A good example is the sorting of granules, coming from the cable recycling. Here copper and aluminum are important metals to recover and separate. The QSS-series runs cable granules or shredded e-motors with approx. 1 t/h on a 300mm wide sorting machine. The size range is 1-5mm.
