Initially, he was involved in the extraction and dredging of sand from Lough Neagh. After selling his share in this business he started an engineering business in Cookstown, Co Tyrone known today as Bruce Engineering Services. The company is now in its 3rd generation and is still owned and managed by the Bruce Family.
