Aetech is a South Korean company that builds AI robot-based sorting systems for material recovery facilities, aimed at automating the separation of household and other waste streams that are still largely sorted by hand in Korea.
Core products
Aetech flagship system, called Atron, combines computer vision, an AI classification model trained on Korean waste data, and robotic pick-and-place hardware to sort incoming material at the company-stated rate of up to 96 items per minute. The company describes Atron as one of the first AI robot-based material recovery facility systems deployed in Korea, and operates its own Robot Resource Recycling Center in Incheon.
Materials and applications
Aetech technology is used for sorting household plastic waste at material recovery facilities, with the company stating it roughly doubles the effective recycling rate for plastic waste compared with conventional manual and mechanical sorting lines. The company says its long-term aim is to extend automated sorting to construction, marine and industrial waste streams as well.
