At IFAT 2026 in Munich, WEIMA Maschinenbau GmbH will present a further development of its shredding technology: the new high-torque drive for waste shredders of the W8 series. It will be used for the first time in the W8.15 PowerLine single-shaft shredder and has been specifically designed for particularly demanding waste streams. At the WEIMA booth, industry professionals will gain insights into the new drive technology and its impact on torque, throughput, and process stability. In addition, WEIMA will showcase its C.200 hydraulic press for dewatering and compacting packaging materials, metal chips, grinding sludge, and sewage sludge.

The WEIMA W8.15 PowerLine is an industrial single-shaft shredder designed for the reliable shredding of waste in recycling facilities and in the production of refuse-derived fuels (RDF) on an industrial scale. Within the PowerLine series, the W8.15, with a working width of 1,500 mm, represents the compact entrylevel model and has proven itself many times over in primary or secondary shredding applications. Typical input materials include mixed commercial waste, municipal solid waste, processed residual materials, as well as highcalorific fractions from RDF production.

The robust rotor design, variable screen concepts, and different drive options ensure uniform shredding with consistently high throughput rates. Thanks to its maintenance-friendly design and high level of process reliability, the W8.15 PowerLine offers recycling companies an economical solution that can be reliably integrated into existing plant and recycling concepts.

Maximum flexibility through customized drive solutions

For its presentation at this year’s IFAT, the W8.15 PowerLine is equipped with a high-torque drive including a servo controller – a new development by Baumüller in cooperation with Nidec Desch. This direct-drive solution was specifically developed for demanding applications involving difficult-to-shred materials. The high-torque motor provides exceptionally high torque even at low rotational speeds. Thanks to the precise coordination between the drive and the rotor shaft, power transmission is optimally utilized, achieving torque levels of 2 / 3 up to 61,000 Nm. At the same time, the innovative drive concept enables energy-efficient, economical, and sustainable operation.

Across all WEIMA shredders in the W8 series, WEIMA offers maximum flexibility. Depending on customer requirements, different drive concepts can be selected to optimally adapt the machine to individual processes. A hydraulic drive is particularly recommended for applications with strongly fluctuating loads and ensures high torque with comparatively low kW power consumption. The classic electromechanical direct drive stands out for its high energy efficiency and low maintenance requirements.

WEIMA: the system supplier

WEIMA does not view waste management as an isolated solution of individual machines, but as a continuous process. For this reason, the company relies on a proven partner network of specialists in conveying and extraction technology, sorting and recycling systems, and energy solutions. Together, WEIMA and its partners implement tailor-made plant concepts—from shredding to material conveying and sorting, all the way to integration into downstream production processes. This results in holistic solutions precisely tailored to the requirements of the waste and circular economy.

“Our customers expect not only powerful machines, but intelligent, interconnected process solutions. With the W8.15 PowerLine, the high-torque drive from Baumüller, and our strong partner network, we demonstrate how we not only meet these expectations but consistently take them a step further,” says Erik Hagen, Sales Director at WEIMA.

Dewatering with a system: The C.200 press in action As one of the world’s largest meeting points for environmental technologies and water management, IFAT 2026 provides the ideal framework to also highlight the topic of dewatering. With the C.200 dewatering press, WEIMA demonstrates how wastewater, sewage sludge, and other moist residual materials can be efficiently dewatered and reduced in volume. The press displayed at the trade fair illustrates how mechanical dewatering can be seamlessly integrated into existing processes within the waste and water industries.
