A cutting-edge C&D waste-processing facility
Final commissioning of the plant is scheduled for spring 2026. The plant has been designed, manufactured and installed by Kiverco, while Pellenc ST is supplying the optical sorting technology. The entire process has been developed with the flexibility to increase capacity as demand grows.
At the core of the installation are six Mistral+ CONNECT™ Full Package optical sorters, which will maximise the recovery of rigid plastics, flexible plastics, brown cardboard and wood from mixed CD&I waste streams.
The sorting units are designed with a Future-Proof architecture, enabling operators to upgrade sensors and technologies through software updates as requirements evolve. McKinstry also plans to integrate CNS BRAIN™, an AI-based module that enhances fibre sorting and enables accurate wood separation into A- and B-grade fractions.

A Benchmark Plant at the European Level
According to JP Devlin, Sales Manager at Kiverco, the installation also integrates in-house digital technologies for performance monitoring and automated maintenance alerts, enabling operators to optimise uptime and operational efficiency.
In addition, the sorting equipment is connected to SMART&SHARE™, providing real-time access to operational data and allowing plant operators to fine-tune sorting parameters and performance.
Once operational, the facility is expected to set a new benchmark for CD&I waste processing in the UK and Ireland, supporting higher material recovery rates while contributing to the development of the circular economy.
