Many Bales Many Materials – A Smooth and Reliable Infeeding By Cross Wrap

Many Bales Many Materials – A Smooth and Reliable Infeeding By Cross Wrap
15 Apr 2026  |
In modern recycling facilities, the process typically starts with the bale. Bales arrive in different sizes and tie types - some one-sided wired, others cross-wired or wrapped in a film.

Before the material can move further in the recycling/WTE process, the bales must be opened and the wires/ties must be cut and removed – to reach the most convenient stock preparation result. If not handled correctly, these wires can disrupt the recycling process. Whether the material is paper, plastic, or waste fuel for cement kilns, smooth infeeding and safe bale opening are key to efficient material handling.

While manual infeeding has been common for years, it comes with clear limitations. It can expose operators to safety risks, particularly when opening tensioned bales and removing wires. As recycling volumes continue to grow and facilities handle more material every day, manual feeding increasingly becomes a bottleneck, as it cannot match the productivity of automated processes. This is where Cross Wrap’s fully automated Bale Dewiring, Bale Openers, and Wire Cutters come into play.

The Dewiring makes the material infeed in the beginning of a process fully automated and enables smooth and continuous material flow in the next steps in the process. The machine handles a wide range of common materials, including plastics (PET, HDPE, LDPE, mixed plastics), paper (OCC, pulp sheets), straw, cotton, and recycled textiles.

It cuts the metal wires and separates them from the bale that are tied without plastic wrapping. The machine coils the wires that save space in storage and transportation, compared to wires cut by hand.

The Bale Opener automates a demanding part of recycling and fuel handling: opening tightly packed bales containing waste-to-energy materials such as RDF/SRF/MSW. The machine cuts the bales open from three sides and removes the film and any ties holding the bale together, allowing only the material itself to continue to the next stage of the process.

The Wire Cutter is ideal for facilities that do not require full bale dewiring but still want to eliminate the safety risks and inefficiencies of manual wire cutting in the infeeding process. It’s a compact, affordable, and reliable solution for both the paper recycling and waste management industries.
